Oswego Community Foundation Reaches Funding Goal

By Lesley Semel of Oswego County Business.

The Oswego County Community Foundation has reached its fundraising goal of $500,000 and is now poised to start the process of issuing grants to qualified nonprofit organizations in the area. The foundation will award grants to local nonprofits with programs that support arts and culture, the environment, animal welfare, education, human services, health and civic affairs. "We started this process locally 12 years ago after 'Leave a Legacy' was established, which led to the development of the foundation," said Randy Ziegler, vice chair for the foundation. Leave a Legacy of Oswego County is a campaign to help educate community members about and importance of giving back through charitable donations.

The OCCF is an affiliate of the Central New York Community Foundation. CNYCF has provided logistics and investment managerial support to the OCCF. "We invented the wheel and the Central New York Community Foundation has been very supportive in the establishment of the foundation," Ziegler noted. Last year, Oswego native Susan Downey made a $100,000 donation to the foundation.

Donations may be made payable to the Central New York Community Foundation with "Oswego County Community Foundation" written on the check. Donations can also be made online at www.cnycf.com/oswego.
