Shineman Foundation Announces Last Grants of 2015

Eleven organizations received grants totaling $216,000 from the Richard S. Shineman Foundation in the last of three 2015 grant rounds at its November board meeting. All funded projects reach a wide range of people in Oswego County.  As with previous grant rounds, the projects represent a diverse cross section of community organizations in human services, education, arts and culture, nutrition, and community revitalization.

The largest awards were given to Oswego County Opportunities for its Call-N-Ride program, the Oswego YMCA, and ARISE’s Oswego chapter in support of the partnership with Hospice of Oswego County to provide aluminum ramps at the homes of patients being served by Hospice.

The Cayuga Community College Foundation received its matching challenge grant of $36,000, pledged by the Shineman Foundation in March contingent on the college foundation raising new capital funds for its Fulton campus. The campaign’s goal is to significantly increase the college’s rate of enrollment from Oswego County’s high schools.

Public Broadcasting Council of CNY Inc. (WCNY’s Enterprise America program) and the Everson Museum of Art each received significant grants to expand programming to reach Oswego County schools. Each organization offers hands-on programming that keeps middle school age children interested in learning and career exploration while improving self-esteem.

Other projects include funding to Blessings in a Backpack’s Oswego-Fulton chapter in support of its expanded mission to provide nutritious food to any Oswego or Fulton school-age child who needs it and Victory Transformation Inc.’s new Rapid Re-Housing initiative. Capacity-building grants were also awarded to LaVeck Concerts and Oswego Players, Inc.
