Kingsford Park Elementary School Playground Transformation

The playground at Kingsford Park Elementary continues to undergo a massive transformation thanks to the generosity of local businesses and organizations.

Phase one of the new playground construction has been completed, with the final few phases expected to be finished by the beginning of next school year. The overhaul has been met with the squeals of approval from KPS students and community members who were on hand during a recent ceremony to thank everyone involved in the project.

“Thanks to the Richard S. Shineman Foundation, Exelon, Novelis and the Children’s Board of Oswego, Kingsford Park School is on its way to having a state-of-the-art playground,” said KPS nurse Therese Chawgo who, along with members of Home & School, helped facilitate the project. “A special thanks goes out to Mayor (Billy Barlow) and the city for providing the excavation and groundwork that will expedite the construction. We are looking forward to seeing the whole community enjoying this beautiful structure in the near future.”

Several school district representatives, students, members of KPS Home & School, local dignitaries and donors were on hand to celebrate the completion of phase one and the beginning of the remaining work. Included in the ceremony were Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow; KPS Principal Dr. Mary Volkomer; Shineman Foundation Executive Director Karen Goetz; OCSD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mathis Calvin III; Exelon representatives Peter Orphanos, Adam Schuerman and Rose Demko; Novelis representative Jeff Cruse; LaDonna Tucker, of the Children’s Board of Oswego; KPS Home & School Association representative Julie Chetney and Therese Chawgo; and KPS students Noah Frost, Luke Frost, Brie Burridge, Padraic Kane, Noah Elliott, Ryan Elliott and Abagail Elliott.
