Richard S. Shineman Foundation Invests in Local Initiatives with $455,442 in Strategic and Mini-Grants

The Richard S. Shineman Foundation is pleased to announce the awarding of $455,442 in grants to a diverse range of organizations, reflecting the foundation's commitment to Oswego County and Central New York. These grants will enable recipients to initiate projects that address critical community needs.

The grants awarded underscore the foundation's dedication and strategic approach by empowering and investing in organizations that contribute to the well-being and vibrancy of our community. The Richard S. Shineman Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to be a catalyst for positive change.

The Richard S. Shineman Foundation is honored to play a part in fostering positive change through these grants. The foundation congratulates all the grant recipients and looks forward to witnessing the successful outcomes of these endeavors. The grant awards, recipients, and their respective projects are as follows:

Grant Amount: $25,000

Desens House - a home dedicated to helping women in recovery from substance use disorder rebuild and lead independent lives

Purpose: The grant's intent is for seed funding of operational expenses for one year

Grant Amount: $34,292

SUNY Oswego School of Business

Purpose: Develop a program to assist local nonprofit capacity-building

Grant Amount: $9,150

St. Mary of the Assumption and Shrine

Purpose: Matching grant for stained glass window preservation

Grant Amount: $13,000

Oswego County Historical Society

Purpose: Dr. Mary Walker's Medal of Honor display

Grant Amount: $52,000

Victory Transformation, Inc.

Purpose: To remodel, repair, and restructure the prior Victory Shelter in Oswego, N.Y.

Grant Amount: $7,000

Friends of Rosamond Gifford Zoo

Purpose: Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo partner with the Fulton YMCA to provide field trips to the zoo and environmental/wildlife conservation education to students in Oswego County. The project will include field trips to the zoo for 90 Fulton YMCA campers in the summer of 2024 and a six-session learning series for the YMCA’s Girls Rock 7th and 8th graders during the 2024-2025 school year.

Grant Amount: $35,000

Farnham Foundation, Inc.

Purpose: Provides funding to conduct a feasibility study and strategic capacity building

Grant Amount: $200,000

Food Bank of Central New York

Purpose: A capital project for a 33,920 SF capacity expansion for their existing facility that includes 20,800 SF of dedicated space for volunteers to sort and pack food, 6,970 SF of warehouse storage, and 6,330 SF of office space to accommodate staff increases.

Grant Amount: $75,000

Oswego City Police Department

Purpose: The Oswego City Police Department’s (OPD) embedded mental health clinician will work with local officers and develop crisis response plans to assist those within the community living with mental health disorders (MHDs) and co-occurring mental health substance use disorders (MHSUDs) who have high rates of contact with emergency services.

Grant Amount: $3,000

Blessings in a Backpack- Fulton Chapter

Purpose: Provide supplemental nutrition to 260 students during the school year

Grant Amount: $2,000

Oswego County Pioneer Search and Rescue Project Lifesaver

Purpose: To create compelling educational materials that will be shared with partner agencies to inform Oswego County residents about the life-changing benefits of Project Lifesaver International (https://projectlifesaver.org).
