Our Foundation |
The Richard S. Shineman Foundation stands as a testament to the legacy of Dr. Richard S. Shineman, a distinguished professor of chemistry at SUNY Oswego, whose profound commitment to intellectual pursuits and community well-being shaped the foundation's inception. Established through Dr. Shineman's foresight and under the ongoing guidance of Barbara Palmer Shineman, the foundation is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the communities it serves, with a particular focus on Oswego County.
Our mission is driven by a three-fold approach:
- Grantmaking: We support qualified nonprofits aligned with our mission through an annual grantmaking process characterized by integrity, honesty, compassion, and a commitment to excellence. To learn more about our grant application process and specific criteria, please visit here.
- Collaboration: By partnering with mission-driven organizations, economic development entities, educational institutions, local governments, and community resources, we work collectively to advance shared goals, thereby enhancing the quality of life and future prospects for Oswego County.
- Capacity Building: Our commitment to building the capacity of our local nonprofits extends to offering workshops, seminars, coaching and Lifecycles assessments tailored for nonprofit staff and board members. These sessions, detailed here, provide valuable tools for professional and organizational development.
